Important Changes to Witches Closet

Flexibility is the key to success, or so they say.  We have always believed this to be true, and so have been open to changes and opportunities as they have come about.  One of these opportunities we've come across will affect this website greatly....

In order to have more flexibility and freedom, we've decided to discontinue our custom and made to order aspects of the business at this time.  That is not to say that we won't be offering these services again in the future, but for now, we will only be offering pre-made items on the website.  It is our hope that this will allow us to stretch out and be even more creative with what we offer!  We want to explore more leatherwork, knitted items, and unique designs.

We will still be taking a few special requests, so if you have something special you want done, please ask!  We'll help you if we can!

It may take us a few days to get the website changed around.  Please drop me a note if you notice something wrong with any links or pages!

Thank you for your wonderful friendship and support!

Liz and Laura

A Tail of Two Puppies

Our father had to placed in a nursing home this year and it has been quite traumatic for both Mom and Dad.  Mom is all alone in the house now and she asked us to find her a dog to keep her company.  The order was tall.  Mom needed a quiet dog, and a small dog, but not an old dog.  The dog also needed to be one we could get along with, because we would be training it and if something happened to Mom, we'd be taking it back.  Mom also asked that it be a rescue.

We immediately decided on a Corgi or Corgi-cross because they are one of the top rated breeds for service dogs and they are a smaller breed.  While Mom was quite anxious for us to hurry up in this search, we really felt that it would take a little time to find the "right" dog.  We were very wrong!

Our sister Susan had seen some Corgi puppies at a local pet store (local for her and mom, not for us).  We were pretty dubious about buying a pet store puppy.  Besides, we really wanted a young adult.  But we were in town visiting anyway and decided - against our better judgement - to go have a look.

There he was...... an adorable little Corgi male, very quiet, in a cage out in front of the busy store.  Liz picked him up and it was quite obvious that he was ill.  He had a cough, he was lethargic, and he really, really wanted someone to rescue him!  We took him to the back where they have some pens to observe the puppies in.  The lady says to us, "He has Kennel Cough".  To any of you who are around a lot of dogs, that's quite a little bombshell to drop!  Kennel Cough is a very contagious respiratory ailment that could spread not only to our 25 dogs at home, but to other species as well - including us!

Needless to say, we nearly dropped the poor puppy and ran for the disinfectant she offered up.  YIKES!  We backed out of that store just as fast as we could!  Thinking that was the worst mistake we could make, we stopped for lunch and talked about whether we should stop at Mom's to wash every stitch of clothing we had on, or just bleach ourselves again when we got home.  We were both thinking about how that little guy had been looking up at us when we left.....

The cards must have been perfect that day.  When we finished lunch, we got in the car to head home.  But instead we went back to the pet store.  We offered the owner a lot less money to take the sick and dying (for he certainly was headed that way) puppy off her hands.

It was hot that day, and we had a long drive home.  The AC in the car made him cough, and so would rolling down the windows.  So we stopped at Mom's to wait for evening.  Mom, of course, fell in love with him right away!  She named him Tonka - her little Tonka Toy.  This was a mistake, we knew.  The puppy was really sick and might not make it.  Mom's heart would be broken if he died.

Tonka did in fact survive!  It took some work and a lot of time, but he came around and turned into a perfectly healthy little pup!  He had to live with his Aunties for a while while we got his vet work taken care of and did some basic training.  We knew he was Mom's though, and never let that thought get too far from our minds!  We would be giving him up soon.

When the time came to deliver him to Mom, we were very sad to see him go.  Mom was so very happy with him though, and that made it worthwhile.  Except that she kept calling us to tell us how perfect he was and how he made her laugh.  He brought (and still brings) Mom a lot of joy!

We have sleddogs, as most of you know.  We have 25 dogs.  We don't need a house dog in our tiny little cabin.  It's silly to even consider.  Tonka was a month gone and we were still missing him.....  We tried to talk ourselves out of it, but we started looking - just looking......  As it turns out, we now have a very special puppy of our own!  Autumn.  A gift from a very dear friend!   She's a lot more willful than little Tonka was, but she's a quick learner and a big snuggler!  We are in love all over again, and this time we get to keep her!

Here are some pictures of Tonka:

And some of Autmn:

And Autumn's dress, just for fun!

We are truly rich in friends and family, thank you!

And then there were Three!

Any addict will tell you that "More is better!"...... We have so much fun with Autumn that we decided she needed a little sister.  This spring, we picked up Ki'Tahla!
